To apply a black pigment is not as easy as it may seem at first glance, although it is commonly said that anything can be painted in black. However, behind the black color there are different products offering more than just a color.
Depending on the carbon black particle size, black masterbatches may have different properties and are suitable for different applications. Carbon black particle sizes range from 50 nm to 19 nm. The following graphic shows the different properties depending on the particle size. |

The above table includes the UV protection factor which has not been considered in the selection of the type of masterbatch – the smaller the particle size, the better the UV protection – an important property to consider for greenhouse, sack and geotextile films.
